Forest Gate Cottage Bed and Breakfast

Welcome to Forest Gate Farm in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. Close to the city, yet secluded. We have been offering comfortable, self contained country accommodation to guest couples in our private guest wing called 'WALNUT' for over 25 years. There is a sky-lit master bedroom with queen bed and goosedown quilt, a lounge/dining room with TV, DVD and film library, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private modern bathroom with a little rainwater spa bath. There is off street parking as well

Forest Gate Farm itself is a small cattle property nestled right alongside the beautiful Kuitpo Forest and is an ideal central location for short trips to Hahndorf, McLaren Vale, Victor Harbour and Strathalbyn. K1 Winery (well known for wedding receptions as well as wine) is just 2 minutes down the road, and other reception venues are also nearby

The historic farm cottage was built of stuccoed stone and daub about 125 years ago and was renovated in the original style of the late 1800's during the 1970's. Subsequently, it was crafted into two entirely separate and private living entities. Forest Gate is currently listed on the local heritage register

As well as having their own private breakfast/BBQ garden, guest couples are invited to roam the rear gardens to see how a Xeriscape garden (no water) can still look quite beautiful following the arrival of the opening rains in Autumn, right through to early Summer before the ravages of heat takes its toll. The birdlife in the gardens is amazing, and some guests get to see their very first blue wrens here at Forest Gate. There are lots of the little blue fellas to catch sight of when they colour up during their breeding cycle

Our peak season is Autumn though late Spring, and all guests are encouraged to make the short trip to Mt Magnificent summit during their stay. We provide a detailed map for this short ½ hour walk, and the photo opportunities on clear days are unsurpassed. It's not called Mt Magnificent for nothing. Another suggestion is a night walk in the forest, so remember to bring a good torch

A feature of Forest Gate is the food. With advance notice, guests can order a lovely evening meal to be prepared for them. Most of the food is grown on the property, (and guests are invited to check out the vegetable garden too).

Please telephone 0415 123 524 or 0415 761 427 all hours to discuss your booking. Emails are also welcome at
